JOHN P. TUMELTY, ESQ.
Mr. Tumelty is a graduate of Fordham University, 1984, cum laude. Brooklyn Law School, 1987, Top 10% of his class. Top Achiever Award in Trial Advocacy, and Estate Taxation. Interned at Appellate Division, Second Department.
Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, 1987 through 1996. Began as a line Assistant and worked his way through the office to become the Deputy Bureau Chief in charge of the Investigations Unit and later a Trial Bureau responsible for overseeing staff attorneys in their handling all felony cases from Homicides to white collar offenses.
In 1996 became Trial Associate at Morris Duffy Alonso & Faley, LLP, a full service law firm. Mr. Tumelty represented most major insurance companies in litigation matters. Companies included,but not limited to, AIG, St. Paul , Travellers , StateFarm, Allstate, Geico, Utica, General Motors, Progressive and many others.
In 1998, Mr. Tumelty co-founded Tumelty & Spier, LLP. The firm specializes in handling complex civil and criminal matters involving State, Federal, and Local litigation. The firm represents corporations, businesses, attorneys, physicians, dentists, pharmacists, ministers, police officers, corrections officers, teachers, artists, taxi drivers, truckers, and numerous other occupations and professions. Matters include injury litigation matters against the largest firms in New York State and the World, as well as the Federal Government, State Government, and local governments.
Mr. Tumelty is, or has been, a member of the National Trial Lawyers Association, ATLA, American Bar Association, New York County Trial Lawyers Association, New York County Bar Association and National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys.
Mr. Tumelty regularly attends and participates in the latest civil and criminal conferences staying informed on emerging issues and defenses related to the fields of practice in which the firm specializes.
Mr. Tumelty has taught at the Borough of Manhattan Community College as an Adjunct Professor and is a proud supporter of many charitable organizations, including St. Jude's Research Hospital, Children's International, Heifer International, Calvary Hospital, Smile Train, and the Boys & Girls Club of America.
Mr. Tumelty has been selected as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers by the National Trial Lawyers and also the America's Top 100 Attorneys.
